How to choose a test centre

Most candidates test at the centre closest to home, but you are free to choose any centre in the country. Several factors can inform your decision:

  • Pass rate. Centres in rural areas typically have higher pass rates than urban centres. Skibbereen (73.2%), Ballincollig (73.0%) and Kilkenny O'Loughlin Gaels (68.4%) lead the rankings.
  • Waiting time. Some centres have significantly shorter waiting lists than others. Check our waiting times dashboard.
  • Route familiarity. Testing where you've practiced the most is usually the best strategy, regardless of the centre's pass rate.
  • Environment. Urban centres test complex city driving skills; rural centres test country road handling. Know your strengths.
Can I change my test centre? Yes. You can change your preferred centre in your MyRoadSafety account at any time before your test is scheduled. Some candidates strategically change centres to get a shorter waiting time or a higher pass rate.
